One Ok Rock ini dibentuk tahun 2005, beranggotakan 4 personil yaitu Taka, Toru, Ryota, dan Tomoya. Awalnya sih 5 orang dengan Alex sebagai gitaris tapi pada Mei 2009 dia keluar dari band. Band ini terbilang baru, apalagi usia para personelnya masih 20 tahunan.
Terbentuknya One Ok Rock dimulai ketika Toru Yamashita yang waktu itu masih siswa SMA mulai membentuk sebuah band. Toru mengatakan pada temannya, Ryota Kohama, yang sama-sama menjadi anggota grup dance hip hop “HEADS” untuk menjadi Bassis dan juga meminta Alex untuk bergabung. Setelah melihat penampilan Taka saat mencoveri sebuah band, Toru merasa Taka adalah sosok yang paling memungkinkan untuk dijadikan vokalis dalam band-nya. Toru pun meminta Taka untuk bergabung. Tomoya adalah anggota terakhir yang bergabung sebagai drummer di tahun 2007.
Nama One Ok Rock sendiri berasal dari “one o’clock,” yaitu waktu dimulainya latihan band mereka setiap akhir minggu. Karena dalam bahasa Jepang antara pengucapan r’s dan l’s tak jauh berbeda, mereka merubah “o’clock” menjadi “o’crock” (atau “o’krock”) yang kemudian menjadi “ok rock”. (hmm~ bisa begitu juga y^^)
Mereka merilis dua mini album indie dan meluncurkan single Naihi Shinsho sebagai debut mayor mereka di April 2007. Tur ke seluruh negeri dilakukan setelah merilis album Zeitakubyo yang kemudian diikuti dua LP’s, Beam of Light dan Kanjou Effect di tahun 2008.
Setelah Alex keluar dari band pada Mei 2009, Band merilis single “Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer” pada 3 Februari 2010 yang langsung masuk peringkat ke-9 dalam Chart Oricon (whaa~ lagunya sangat keren >,<) Mereka merilis album keempat berjudul “Niche Syndrome” pada 9 Juni 2010.
